Late

Sunday 20th May 2007 10:50:54 PM

At work yesterday I was checking my stats (after a very long time) and I noticed I'd been marked down late everyday for the past month (if not more) and yesterday was no exception. I knew I'd been going in late but when you see it on your stats it leaves a mark on you, knowing that this information will be part of my reference history. I was surprised no-one had said anything, maybe once again my past punctuality had rescued me?

Reason behind my lateness is something I've always battled against, a thing called sleep. Currently on SS forums there's a thread titled "insomnia" where there are a few people having difficulty in getting a good night's sleep for whatever reason. I, on the other hand, suffer from getting too much sleep. Before I used to say "Oh I love my sleep", now I've realised my sleep is holding me back and now it seems to be a case of "My sleep loves me!" ... and I don't want to return the love no more :(

Let me explain this a bit more, I can very easily sleep 12 hours a day and when I wake up I know my body is aching for more. I've even gone to sleep at 9pm and then tried getting up at 7am, unfortunately it just doesn't happen and I end up being late. The problem mainly is the waking up in the morning, I always want to snooze and when that happens half an hour goes past like 5 mins.

I did however manage to get myself to work on time today, and that was only because I had to get up to go to the toilet. On my return I caught a glimspe of the time on my phone and thought if I go to bed now I'll be a gonner.

When I got into work a friend says to me ...

"Tos, ajj assi doy jaldi ayyah" (in punjabi)
"Yah man, we should celebrate. How comes - what's the sketch with you?"
"I had to set three alarms ... at different times"
"I should try that ... though I don't know about being 'jaldi' "
"You're right. These gorays call it being 'on time' "

Wow, that is a lot of sleep indeed. I think you shoudl start timing yourself, and see how muchtime you spend sleeping, everyday. For morning, make strong intention to wake up for fajr. First few times, it will be hard, but once you start it, it will be hard for you to sleep through fajr time. Our body wants to pray, afterall! And this gives you a strong reason to wake up. I set my alarm in three 5-10 minutes interval. Don't set two alarms any more than 15 minutes apart, because you just fall deep asleep by that time. You just need some continuous interruption in a regular interval: small interval!

Furfura that is some excellent advice, I'm gonna try the regular interval thing. As for namaz I think I've to master day ones first!

Ya cherie that's what I used to think... it's not all good.

Ashi with me its 'i want to get up but cant... need to snooze' and the snooze is not ur ordinarily snooze it's like 1 hour!

Toseef,

My first thought was - It's not uncommon for youngsters to sleep this much, its call relaxed life, enjoy it while it lasts. Having said that - I believe you don’t get refreshed after this much sleep, right? If so I would suggest some physical activity. First few days would be difficult but you’ll get a hang of it and feel rested in 7 or 8 hours of sleep.
